El Torito, founded in Encino in 1954 by the late Larry Cano, is credited with pioneering full-service Mexican restaurant concepts and popularizing margaritas.

It also was a pioneer in the brunch boom, starting to serve the popular weekend buffet meal back in the ’80s. Today brunch accounts of 20 percent of the chain’s business.
